Rio Grande Standard

The body of this guitar is based on Martins famous OM series, it has a deep resonant voice, we offset the nut and saddle slightly from the standard so the guitar plays in perfect intonation all the way to the 24th fret. These guitars are great for fingerpicking, the body is fairly deep which helps develop the resonance. They also do very well with a pickup system, we prefer a passive system as the guitars seem to perform better in concert situations.

  • Body Length: 19 1/4"
  • Body Width At Upper Bout: 11"
  • Body Width At Lower Bout: 15"
  • Body Depth At End: 4 1/4"
  • Scale Length: 25.4"
  • Standard Nut Width: 1 11/16" to 1 7/8"

Rio Grande Cutaway

This is the same basic guitar at the standard, however it has a florentine cutaway which allows access to all 24 frets on the guitars. The model shown also has a Paua inlaid into the binding of the guitar, with an angle back this makes a great players guitar, we actually keep this particular one on hand is the most played version of the guitar we have.

  • Body Length: 19 1/4"
  • Body Width At Upper Bout: 11"
  • Body Width At Lower Bout: 15"
  • Body Depth At End: 4 1/4"
  • Scale Length: 25.4"

Rio Grande Fanned Fret

Fanned fret guitars have a longer 6th string and a shorter 1st, much like a grand piano uses a very long length for the lower registers, a Fanned fret guitar uses the same idea. Fret placement is scaled so that all 6 strings use a different scale, this results in a guitar that has a fantastic dynamic range. The lower registers are incredibly full and the upper registers are high and crisp, also because of the way a players hand and wrist turn, playing a fanned fret feels very natural. Most players will pick one up and after 2 or 3 minutes not even notice, it feels very natural.

  • Body Length: 19 1/4"
  • Body Width At Upper Bout: 11"
  • Body Width At Lower Bout: 15"
  • Body Depth At End: 4 1/4"
  • Scale Length: 27" lower, 24.75 upper.
  • Standard Nut Width: 1 11/16" to 1 7/8"

Ramona Classical

Based on the work of Ramirez, this is warm and vibrant sounding classical. The model shown has fingerboard markers but most come without them, the tops are normall sitka spruce, although cedar is a very good alternative (if a bit delicate, cedar dents very easily). Classical are built %100 by hand in the shop, they require a great deal of finesse and precision (much like violins), the time alotted to doing one is always longer than a standard steel string guitar but the extra time is worth it.

  • Body Length: 19 1/4"
  • Body Width At Upper Bout: 11"
  • Body Width At Lower Bout: 14 1/4"
  • Body Depth At End: 4"
  • Scale Length: 650mm.
  • Nut Width: 1 15/16"

Custom Options

  • Fanned Fret Guitar System (for more information visit Ralph Novax's web site)
  • Slanted Back for ease of playing.

Slanted backs are great when playing live, the top part of the guitar is much thinner, which makes it easier to hold and play the guitar. Players that get this feature really love the idea that they can play the guitar for a long period of time without their arm getting tired.

  • Custom inlay available on request.
  • Thin body.

Thin body guitars are a good option for people who are uncomfortable playing a large or deep bodied guitar, it's great for kids as well.

  • K & K pickup system (for more information visit K & K's Home Page)
  • Optional Fret Sizes (we use Jumbo by default on steel strings and mediums on Classicals)
